I got a few names from my designer and got quotes myself, rather than pay a commission for the builder to organise it.
The three quotes came in within about $100 of each other, so the people who were nicest to me on the phone won the work.
It's funny how you find out little bits of information from all sorts of people. When I was talking about the demolition with my brother he said that the demolition company has to put rat baits in for two weeks before they are allowed to demolish the house.
You move out on Day 1, the demolition company arrives on Day 2 and puts baits everywhere (I suppose so all the rats are dead and don't go to other people's houses when they demolish). At the same time the demolition company applies to the local council for a demolition license.
About 10 days after I moved out I got a call from the demolition company asking for a copy of the planning approval, as the council wanted this in order to issue the demolition license. Well, who do you think issued the planning approval in the first place? Right! The council. Obviously, the different sections don't talk to each other!
That phone call was about two weeks ago and I don't know what is happening, but the house is still standing. I sent and e-mail last week to the demolition company, but have not heard back.
It is now four weeks since I moved, and I would have thought the house would have been demolished by now! More later.
Didn't you known that there are bamboo curtains everywhere throughout the council? It adds to the fun and challenge of building a new house! I'm sure they do it for your benefit. I just had the council reject a building inspection needed for the final subdivision (to get a Form 8 to those who know) with an issue that they wanted the builder to provide all the documentation. The builder said that the council had in fact inspected this before the roof went on. Then, the next issue re subdivision, the council didn't give the surveyor a critical piece of information and we had to redo that. I could go on but I wont!
